Special school hopes to build extra classrooms

A special school in Widnes has submitted expansion plans to enable it to accept more pupils.

Ashley School on Cawfield Avenue has submitted an application for a single storey extension with four new classrooms, which would enable it to accommodate an additional 40 children.

Last year, Halton Council signed off an increase of pupil places for 11 to 19-year-olds from 112 to 152 at Ashley.

It followed a grant from the Department for Education (DfE) of £2.1m to expand Halton’s existing provision for pupils and students with high needs.
