Oddies has been given a reprieve
A FORMER social club at the heart of its Widnes community for 'generations' has been handed a reprieve, after plans to turn it into a storage unit were knocked back.
Planners at Halton Council have rejected an application to transform the former Oddies social club on Hale Road into a storage facility, with concerns being raised over its loss as a community venue by the local parish council.
The club closed in 2018 and had originally occupied the ground floor of the site, with the top floor still being used as a Chinese restaurant.
A planning application said the storage facility would have been for the private use of the applicant - Tahir Malik of Imaan Ltd - and would not be available for public access.
