Plans for football club's new home are withdrawn

AMBITIOUS plans to renovate the former 'Corpy' club in Widnes and turn it into a new home for Widnes Football Club are in tatters after proposals were withdrawn.

The football club - which recently won promotion to the Northern Premier League Premier Division - had submitted plans for the new facilities at the King George V playing fields off Dundalk Road.

The project would also have seen the dilapidated former Halton Corporation Recreation Club - known locally as the 'Corpy club' - renovated, extended and brought back into use.

The existing two football pitches would have been retained and new stands for supporters, flood lighting, ticket office and turnstiles constructed.
