Ex-police officer banned for sending 'derogatory, offensive and racist' messages over a two year period
Runcorn Weekly News
|June 19, 2025
A FORMER officer at Cheshire Constabulary has been banned from the profession after he was caught sending “derogatory, offensive and racist” WhatsApp messages.
Police Constable Anthony Murphy sent the “totally unacceptable” messages to an ex-partner and friend over a period of more than two years between May 2021 and August 2023.
The force has confirmed Murphy would have been dismissed had he not already resigned in March.
A recent Accelerated Misconduct Hearing ruled the officer's actions amounted to gross misconduct - a finding he accepts.
