Padel court plans halted over 'loss of games area'
Rossendale Free Press
|May 30, 2025
PLANS for a new padel court in a park have been halted after a number of key stakeholders raised concerns about the temporary loss of access to the current free to use multi-use games area.
-
The multi-use games area in Whitaker Park in Rawtenstall was set to become temporary padel courts this month.
PadelParcs, a community focussed Padel operator, submitted a planning application to Rossendale Council to put a 21 square-metre cabin next to the facility at the park.
The proposed building was set to serve as a clubhouse for the court.
However, Rossendale Borough Council and Padelparcs have jointly agreed to pause a planned ‘test and learn’ initiative.
Both parties are continuing to collaborate on identifying a new, more suitable location where the project can deliver maximum benefit without impacting current community access to free recreational space.
