RETFORD SIDES GEAR UP FOR THEIR PLAY-OFF BATTLES
RETFORD FC and Retford United have turned their attentions to the play-offs after wrapping up their league season in a tense derby.
Over 1,000 watched as the Choughs completed the double over their nearest rivals with a 2-0 victory.
A much-changed and rotated 11 was selected for the Badgers to ensure no important injuries or suspensions came just before the play-offs.
Young keeper DJ Smith got the nod, with captain Adam Yates rested totally and usual starters Kieran Knight, Ross Goodwin and Jake Champion among the substitutes.
The visitors went close first, an effort from Mark West that was hit straight at Jon Kennedy.
The Choughs started to get into the game, Jacob Priestnall firing his shot over the bar.
Then on nine minutes the hosts took the lead as Ainsley Finney fired home.
Moments later, FC could have increased their lead when Silas Valladolid-Collins cut inside from the right to fire a shot that was blocked by a defender and out for a corner.
