Youth in Service, Nation's Future: NSS

The National Service Scheme (NSS), which inspires the youth of India towards social service, national unity, and humanitarian ideals, has completed 56 years since its establishment.

Every year on 24 September, NSS Foundation Day is celebrated with great enthusiasm in universities, colleges, and schools across the country. This occasion is not just a formality but a reminder to the youth of their social responsibilities.

NSS was launched on 24 September 1969, the birth centenary year of Mahatma Gandhi. Gandhi Ji always gave the highest importance to service and self-discipline in his life. He believed that the real strength of the nation lies in its youth, and if they participate in social work, the country can become strong. Keeping these ideas in mind, the central government started NSS through the Ministry of Education. Its motto, "Not Me But You", gives the message of selfless service, dedication, and cooperation.

The main aim of this scheme is to awaken a sense of social responsibility in the youth and to develop their overall personality. Through NSS in colleges and universities, students are taught that life is not only for oneself but that living for society is the true value of life. The symbol of NSS also conveys the same messagethat just as a wheel keeps moving continuously, in the same way service should also remain ongoing.
