The Uttar Pradesh Renaissance
-
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's eight years in office since taking charge on March 19, 2017, the state has become India's second-largest economy, contributing 9.2% to the national GDP.In July 2018, Adityanath, along with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Moon Jae-in, president of South Korea, inaugurated the world's largest smartphone manufacturing factory in Noida, Uttar Pradesh. His government was credited for making 50 megawatts of power and a 22-kilometre-long (14 mi) electricity line in a record four months for the Samsung mobile plant. Yogi Adityanath's leadership has undeniably transformed Uttar Pradesh over the last eight years, with remarkable improvements in infrastructure, governance, law and order, and welfare schemes. The state is witnessing rapid urbanization, agricultural prosperity, and a stronger security framework. The initiatives taken in the fields of healthcare, women’s safety, and energy conservation demonstrate the government's commitment to inclusive development are commendable.
Before 2017, Uttar Pradesh was reeling under one of its darkest phases. Law and order had completely collapsed, and corruption had seeped into every department of governance. Under the Samajwadi Party government led by Akhilesh Yadav, crime had become a part of daily life, murders, extortion, and assaults filled the headlines. Women lived in fear, and criminals operated with near impunity. The nexus between politics and the underworld was no secret, with names like Atiq Ahmed, Mukhtar Ansari, and Vikas Dubey openly flourishing under political protection.
