“Online learning opened the window. But it is the qualified teacher who opens the mind and no algorithm has learned to do that yet.”

We all will agree: this is, without any doubt, a Digital Era. We know that science and technology, in the form of internet, has done something genuinely extraordinary, becoming an inseparable part of human life.

Online education provides lectures of world-class professors to students in villages, towns, underserved sections and communities, those who could never have thought of accessing such knowledge. This mode is available without any caste, creed and gender bias, an achievement that needs honest acknowledgement. And still, this is a point that needs more attention. We have to accept that just getting an access to information doesn’t mean the same thing as education. The digital mode is abundant with content which is more than what one can consume in a lifetime. What the internet has not given is a replacement for the well qualified teacher. That is what matters most.

Why a Qualified Teacher is important?

Trained and experienced teachers are not just deliverers of content. They become, knowledge providers, motivators, mediators, empathizers, and of course, mentors, in a forty minute class, focusing on each student. They have the capacity to notice, without being told, when a student is losing confidence. They know when and how to push and when to pause, exactly according to the need of the class. They teach, adjusting tone, pace, and approach in real time, which is absolutely not possible in pre-recorded video or adaptive algorithm available through online mode. This is practicality and not sentimentality. It is a quality; a professional expertise gained through years of training and practice.
