AS AN INDIVIDUAL who has been actively involved in the Tamil Eisteddfod for many years - an event hosted by the KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) Tamil Vedic Society provincial body - I feel compelled to respond to a column by Saranya Devan, "Far too much of tossing around the Tamil eisteddfod in SA", the POST, April 2-6. It was in reference to the recent official opening of the 2025 Tamil eisteddfod.

If the eisteddfod is so close to Devan's heart as she so passionately claims then I must ask: what has she done as an individual to support or promote the event or the organisation behind it? Support does not only have to be financial. It could be through participation, volunteering, mentorship, or simply encouraging the next generation to take part and perform on stage.
Yes, the KZN Tamil Vedic Society provincial body did make an earnest plea for financial assistance at the event.
