Why Indians must reduce salt intake

I WONDER how many of you read the article, “Consume less salt, Indians urged” (the POST, July 23 - 27).
The figures quoted are alarming. Salt is a silent killer.
The World Health Organization (WHO) says an estimated 1.89 million deaths each year are as a result of eating too much salt. Another frightening statistic is that, despite warnings of the health risks of excess salt in our diets, Indians still consume 2.2 times more sodium than that recommended by the WHO.
Why are we risking our lives?
