THE Independent Group to which POST newspaper belongs, abides by the press code of ethics and conduct for South African print and online media.
Section 16 of the Bill of Rights in the South African Constitution states that everyone has the right to freedom of expression.
However, we are mindful that this core democratic principle does not extend to advocacy of hatred that is based on race, ethnicity, gender or religion.
Letters about religion can be a vital part of public discourse, and newspapers have long served as platforms for diverse voices and perspectives, so long as there is no defamation or incitement to cause harm.
