Historic title wins celebrated as barriers fall at South African Road Championships

IN A historic and inspiring performance, Daniyal Matthews of Team Siata clinched the elite men’s title at the 2025 South African Road Championships on February 9, 2025.

This victory not only marks Matthews as the first rider of colour to win this prestigious event but also signifies the first time a predominantly black team has secured the national championship, highlighting a transformative moment in South African cycling history.
The championship unfolded over a challenging 165-kilometer course in Midvaal, Gauteng. Matthews completed the race in 3 hours, 45 minutes, and 28 seconds, narrowly edging out Casper Kruger of Team Honeycomb Pro Cycling, who finished with the same time, and Daniel Loubser, who crossed the line 28 seconds later.
