Draf en 'n koffie saam met die Social Rats Running Club, geleentheid vir beginners om fiks te word

Wat aanvanklik begin het as twee broers wat saam gaan draf het, het vinnig ontwikkel in 'n sosiale drawwersklub, genaamd die Social Rats Running Club.

Ben en Pieter Schempers het aan die begin van dié drafseisoen, aanvanklik Maandagoggende vanaf Die Koffieman in Bendorrylaan gaan hardloop en daarna saam koffie gedrink.

"Aanvanklik was dit net ons twee. Mettertyd het ons vriende en familie begin nooi om saam met ons te hardloop, en dit het natuurlik gegroei tot wat dit vandag is met 68 lede sterk. Enigiemand is welkom om by ons aan te sluit," sê Ben.

Die groep begin elke keer by Die Koffieman, wat dit moontlik maak om ná die tyd gesellig saam koffie te drink. Die drawwers vertrek elke Maandagen Vrydagoggend om 05:00 en hardloop sowat 5km, terwyl sommige lede tussen 8km en 10km aflê. "Dit is nie nodig om fiks te wees nie, jy kan selfs stap. Ons sien dit nie as 'n hardloopklub nie, maar eerder as 'n sosiale klub. Enige iemand is welkom."
