Thanks to family for saving our lost soldier

Black Watch veterans were eager to meet and thank the last remaining child of a French farming family which sheltered a Black Watch soldier cut off from his unit in June 1940.

Private Cameron Walker, a blacksmith's son from Forteviot in Perthshire, would remain hidden with the family for four years-helping on the farm and hiding in a specially made niche between the chimneys whenever German soldiers made their frequent searches.

Despite the danger to themselves, Hamilton Hubert and his family "adopted" Cameron as an extra son and the last surviving daughter-Ghislaine Pegard (80)-told of the love the family had for the young Scotsman.
