Small but important change for animals

Recently, I was delighted to introduce my Members Bill to end greyhound racing for good in Scotland.

It’s been a long haul getting to this point and I was joined by campaigners, animal welfare charities and rescued greyhounds in a colourful gathering in front of the Scottish Parliament.

The world is in a fraught state right now and the world of politics especially so.

It was a welcome distraction to get MSPs across parties together, backing a bill that will make a small but important change to the lives of animals we all care about.

Greyhounds suffer terrible injuries from racing, my own rescued greyhound Bert still suffers from a broken leg a decade after he was rehomed.

There is no safe way to race dogs against each other at speeds of up to 40 mph around curved tracks.

As sight hounds they converge together at the first bend and often crash.
