Maggie tees off on a charity challenge in memory of mum

A Perthshire golfing marathon has teed-up more than £3000 for Alzheimers Scotland.

Maggie Marshall, ladies captain at The Blairgowrie Golf Club, marked her late mother Ellen's birthday by playing 85 holes for a charity close to her heart.

The challenge got under way at 4.20am and Margaret celebrated 17 hours later with husband Stan and fellow members by tucking into scampi and chips, washed down by a glass of red wine.

"I was always confident my general fitness would be alright, but I twanged my neck and shoulder recently and that was a real worry," said 15.9 handicapper Margaret (59) from Kinross.

"I took alongsome heat pads and they helped. But the best piece of advice I got, and followed, was to forget about taking practice swings.
