Girlguide volunteer honoured by the King

A Perthshire Girlguiding Scotland volunteer has been recognised in this year's King's Birthday Honours list.

Kathleen Baird, who volunteered with Girlguiding Scotland Tay and Ochils county, received the British Empire Medal (BEM) for her service to the charity and the Perth and Kinross community.

Kathleen started out as a Brownie in 1955 before moving up to Guides.

She became an adult volunteer when her daughter joined a Brownie unit in Abernethy and she also joined Friends of Girlguiding Scotland where she became chairperson.

She has been district commissioner of the Bridge of Earn area and worked her way up to county commissioner where she held post from 1992 to 1997.
