Concerns over delay in reopening Stone of Destiny at museum

The exhibition - which is the centrepiece to Culture Perth and Kinross's new £27million museum - has been shut since July 12 during the busy tourist season following an incident in which the Stone of Destiny's glass case was smashed.

Culture Perth and Kinross was unable to say when the Stone will again be on display, only that a "full conservation assessment is underway" and access will resume once case repairs are complete.

Its website states the museum - which opened in March 2024 - has 24/7 security in place to protect the precious artefact and no people or historic objects were harmed during the incident.

The Perthshire Box Office booking site states "bag searches may be in effect".

A 35-year-old man appeared at Perth Sheriff Court following the July 12 incident charged with malicious mischief.
