Authors to bring trio's story to life
Perthshire Advertiser
|April 29, 2025
Three fascinating historical female figures will be the focus of discussion at the next event in a Perthshire literary festival’s programme.
Award-winning writers Sean Lusk and Victoria MacKenzie will talk about Lady Mary Wortley Montagu, Julian of Norwich and Margery Kempe at the much-anticipated session in the St Catharine’s Hall, in Blairgowrie, during a Bookmark ‘Meet the Author’ event at 2pm on Saturday, May 3.
Sean is the author of ‘A Woman of Opinion’, a fictionalised account of the life of 18th century English aristocrat, medical pioneer, writer and poet Lady Mary Wortley Montagu.
And Victoria's debut novel, ‘For Thy Great Pain Have Mercy On My Little Pain’, imagines the spiritual conversations between two 15th century women, Julian of Norwich - who wrote the first known book by a woman in the English language - and Margery Kempe, whose dictated story is the first known autobiography in English by a man or a woman.
Gail Wylie is chair of the volunteer-led Bookmark festival committee.
