Heroic Scotland manager Steve Clarke has attributed much of John McGinn's career success to the grounding he had at St Mirren.

Clarke, who himself turned out for the Saints 200 times during the 80s, praised the set up at the Paisley club which trained no less than three members of the Scotland squad in their youth and senior set up.

Goal scorers in the now legendary 4-2 victory over Denmark, Lawrence Shankland and Kenny McLean, spent time with the Saints, as well as McGinn.

Speaking as part of a documentary on the Aston Villa captain, Clarke said Saints' impact on a young McGinn cannot be understated.
