STING IN THE TAIL FOR THE BUDDIES' EURO BID

Jonah Ayunga looked to have fired the Buddies to victory on the final day of the Premiership season.

But James Forrest netted with seconds remaining to ensure champions Celtic avoided defeat before they lifted the trophy.

For much of the afternoon, Saints were in fifth place and set for a spot in next season's UEFA Conference League.

There was to be a sting in the tail, though, as United recovered from a goal down to beat Aberdeen 2-1 to actually clinch fourth with the Dons ending up fifth.

It was a tension-filled afternoon but Saints could look back on it with pride as they completed their top-six campaign unbeaten.

Saints made one change to the team which fought back to earn a dramatic 2-2 draw at home to Hibernian.

Skipper Mark O'Hara returned to central midfield with Roland Idowu dropping to the bench. Richard Taylor and Caolan Boyd-Munce were playing their final games for the club.

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers made nine changes to the largely reserve side that thrashed Aberdeen 5-1.
