Paisley MP calls for fair veterinary prices

Renfrewshire politician Johanna Baxter is urging local veterinary practices to be fair and transparent with pet owners after an investigation found vet prices across the UK have soared.

The probe by the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) found that average costs rocketed by 63 per cent between 2016 and 2023, far outstripping inflation.

Now, as chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Cats, Johanna has welcomed the CMA's provisional findings, which call for a major overhaul of the veterinary sector.

The report proposes clearer information on treatment costs, a price cap on prescriptions, and measures to boost competition in the UK's £6.3 billion veterinary services market.
