St Matthew's Church of the Nazarene in Paisley's busy town centre is an oasis of tranquillity in a soulless concrete jungle.

Its red brick walls hewn from a sandstone quarry in Dumfriesshire symbolise the blood of St Matthew the Evangelist, who died a martyr's death after preaching the gospel in Judaea, Ethiopia and Persia.
St Matthew's is one of the finest Art Noveau churches in Europe. Art Nouveau is a late 19th/early 20th century architectural style characterised by flowing lines, high-quality craftsmanship and decorative romanticism.
Dating from 1903, St Matthew's was designed by a young congregation member named William Daniel McLennan (1872-1940) who became one of Scotland's greatest architects.
