Congestion charges should be about relieving congestion rather than raising money.

But the SNP's proposal to levy one on motorists entering the Glasgow Council area is purely a cynical attempt to hit hard working families with another unwanted and unnecessary tax.
It is a beggar thy neighbour policy which could hit those of us in Paisley and Renfrewshire who commute to Glasgow for work, or who have to drive to the city to visit our loved ones in hospital.
Frankly SNP councillors in Glasgow should show more respect and care for the wider community of the west of Scotland rather than just looking to see how they can fill their own shortfall in cash because they do not have the courage to stand up to their SNP masters at Holyrood to make the case for why local councils should be better funded.
The leader of Glasgow City Council, Susan Aitken, famously did not lift a finger when Glasgow faced an infestation of rodents and merely shrugged her shoulders and said, 'every city has rats!
