Missing St Mirren's Euro run was source of regret for Bone...

The late Jimmy Bone had a storied and much-travelled career but his St Mirren days remained some of the best moments of his footballing life.

A former striker at the Paisley club in the late 70s, Bone also famously helped Saints win the Scottish Cup in 1987 as assistant to Alex Smith, then returned in the early 90s to manage the club for several season.
But his one regret was missing Saints' European adventure in 1980, Bone admitting in an interview with this paper back in 2021 that he wished he had tasted continental action at a packed Love Street.
However, he insists going toe to toe with the likes of Franz Beckenbauer and George Best on the other side of the Atlantic made it more than worthwhile.
"I was very lucky to play all over the world during my career," said Bone, who turned out for Hong Kong Rangers and Toronto Blizzard during an eventful career that also included time at home with Partick Thistle and Hearts.
"I loved my time at St Mirren and we had a superb, young team. I was brought in by Alex Ferguson to be one of the older, more experienced heads in the dressing room alongside Jackie Copeland.
"After we'd completed the Scottish season, the opportunity came up for me to go on loan to Toronto Blizzard. My former teammate at Sheffield United Keith Eddy was the manager at the time and he wanted to bring in some good British players.
