Many changes made to carer benefits

I am currently getting Carer Support Allowance for my husband.

Support Additional payments are available for those caring for more than one person

However, my mum and dad have also moved in as I am now providing care for them too. I was previously told that, as I already claim for my husband, I'm not entitled to additional financial support. Is there any support available?Yes. There are many changes to carer benefits in Scotland starting this month - one of them will be the new Carer Additional Person Payment.

This means people caring for more than one person may be able to claim an extra £10 in the form of a weekly payment.

As you currently get Carer Support Payment, you should automatically receive a letter from Social Security Scotland inviting you to apply for Carer Additional Person Payment after Sunday, March 15.

To be eligible for Carer Additional Person Payment, you must be the main carer for one cared-for person and give at least 20 hours per week of care to one or more people.

All of the people you care for must receive a qualifying disability benefit, like Adult Disability Payment or Child Disability Payment.

There will also be changes to the current Carer Allowance Supplement that you should be aware of.
