BY RENFREWSHIRE COUNCIL LABOUR GROUP LEADER IAIN MCMILLAN
-
As we councillors move to our summer recess, it seems we have about six weeks of meetings squeezed into about a fortnight.
Not that I am complaining. I like being busy but, like a lot of people, I'm looking forward to a couple of weeks off to spend time with family and get ready for a busy period as we run up to the Holyrood elections in May 2026.
I'm sure they will feature heavily in my future articles but, for the moment, I will concentrate on the here and now.
The last few weeks have seen myself and other members of Renfrewshire's Integrated Joint Board (IJB) meet with service users, staff and carers who use services that are facing cuts as a result of the perilious financial situation the IJB finds itself in.
I've been involved in some controversial decisions over the years but this has got to be the worst.
Listening to the fears of those who may be impacted by these cuts is awful and something I never would want anyone ever to go through again.
I hope a solution can be found in order to stop these losses of service but I'm not convinced that the Scottish Government really appreciates the state not only Renfrewshire IJB is in but IJBs throughout Scotland.
