Covid kept fans away last time at Hampden, so it's great to give them this one

Stephen Robinson is thrilled the black-and-white army can march on Hampden-four years after they were locked out.

- COLIN PATERSON

The St Mirren boss will take his team to the national stadium in November for a Premier Sports Cup semifinal against Motherwell after Friday night's dramatic spot-kicks win over Kilmarnock.

Saints made it to the last four of both the League Cup and Scottish Cup in 2021-but that was Scottish football's Covid season when all matches were played behind closed doors.

It meant Paisley punters had to settle for the small screen as their side lost 1-0 to Livingston in the League Cup and 2-1 to St Johnstone in the Scottish Cup.

You have to go back to the famous League Cup final victory in 2013, when St Mirren beat Hearts 3-2, for the last time the fans saw their favourites on the grand stage in a cup competition.

Nothing will stop the supporters descending on Mount Florida this time-and Robbo (below) is glad his players have delivered this moment for them.
