Council will face ‘difficult decisions’ over savings

A series of savings targets for Renfrewshire Council over the next three years will go before elected members at a crunch summit this week.

Councillors will be asked to agree an aim of £6.3 million for 2026/27, £8.3m for 2027/28 and £5.2 million for 2028/29 at a meeting on Thursday.

The local authority has generated savings of £189m since 2011/12 but has acknowledged it is becoming “increasingly difficult” to continue at that scale.

That's according to a report prepared by Alastair MacArthur, director of finance and resources, which laid bare the challenging environment facing the council.
