China's 84% revenge

CHINA has raised tariffs to 84% on goods coming from the United States in an additional counter-measure.

Last week, Beijing had said it would levy 34% tariffs on all US goods. Yesterday, Donald Trump's tariffs of 104% came into effect on Chinese exports to the US.

The ministry of commerce wrote in a statement introducing its white paper on trade with America: "If the US insists on further escalating its economic and trade restrictions, China has the firm will and abundant means to take necessary countermeasures and fight to the end."

The government in Beijing declined to say whether it would negotiate with the White House.
