Campaigners fight latest plans to clear woodland

Paisley’s most prominent environmental campaigners are again set to defend a rich biodiversity corridor near Caplethill Road.

Save Paisley’s Green Space has this week launched a campaign to fight plans to remove trees and shrubbery from an area near the new Miller Homes Thornly Park development.

The developer has admitted in an application to Renfrewshire Council that its initial plans for a path on the edge of the estate must be scrapped due to “ecological constraints”.

Instead of upgrading a stretch of path running along Caplethill Road, Miller Homes now wants to upgrade the existing cycle path which runs through the site before turning right on to Glenfield Road and finally back to Caplethill Road.

The new scheme, however, would see the path on Glenfield Road widened to three metres which would again most likely see trees felled and wildlife habitat destroyed.
