Alfredo hangs up his apron.. but chippy is in good hands
Paisley Daily Express
|May 10, 2025
Alfredo Nutini, the familiar face behind Paisley’s beloved fish and chip shop Castelvecchi, is retiring after 53 years.

The family business - located on 10 New Street - has been in town for 111 years and gained national attention thanks to Alfredo’s son Paolo's music career.
But Alfredo has decided it is time to call it a day with the chippy to be taken over by current manager David O'Neill.
What started as a small ice-cream parlour grew into an institution for generations of customers.
In 1914, Alfredo’s grandad Alfredo Castelvecchi, and his wife Mary, emigrants from Barga in Italy's Tuscany region, opened The Palace restaurant.
By the 1940s, their daughter Ada and her husband Jackie Nutini were running the business now known as Castelvecchi.
The 70s saw the shop being run by their children Loretta and Alfredo who continued the legacy with the same hands-on dedication.
Eventually, Alfredo and his wife Linda took over and became familiar faces behind the counter.
