Woman, daughter held over ₹123-crore chit fund scam

The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Odisha Police has arrested the wife and daughter of a chit fund firm director, who is already behind bars, in West Bengal in connection with a ponzi scam involving Rs 123 crore and around 34,000 investors from multiple states and Bangladesh.
Dwipika Bhanjo and Tandra Bhanjo, who were arrested in Paschim Medinipur of West Bengal, are the wife and daughter, respectively, of Tusar Bhanjo, the director of Harit Krishi Nidhi Ltd. and M/s Transvision Dream Multi Trade Pvt. Ltd.
According to the EOW, the company collected over Rs 123 crore from investors across Odisha, West Bengal, Chhattisgarh, Assam, Tripura, Maharashtra, and even Bangladesh.
The two women have been booked under Sections 420, 467, 468, 471, and 120B of the IPC, read with Sections 4, 5, and 6 of the PCMCS (Banning) Act, Section 6 of the OPID Act, and Section 66(D) of the Information Technology Act.
The accused were produced before the Court of CJM, Barasat, North 24 Parganas, Kolkata, May 20 and brought to Bhubaneswar on a three-day transit remand. They were presented before the Designated Court under the OPID Act in Cuttack Wednesday.
