The Odisha Police Crime Branch arrested a 'suave NRI' conman for allegedly duping highly qualified professionals to the tune of lakhs of rupees on the pretext of helping them get well-paid jobs abroad.

DGP, Crime Branch, Vinaytosh Mishra identified the accused as Bishnu Prasad Pattnaik alias Biranchi Narayan who hails from a place under Begunia police station limits in Khordha district.

"The accused cheated a qualified aeronautical engineer, who passed out from a college in Coimbatore, to the tune of Rs 90 lakh on the pretext of providing him a job in British Airways, and thereafter, Lufthansa Airways," Mishra said Friday.

The accused even created fake offer and appointment letters to deceive the victim who is a resident of Gunupur.

Based on the complaint lodged by the victim, a case was registered at Gunupur police station of Rayagada district October 29, 2018.

The Crime Branch later took up the investigation after registering a fresh case, the DGP added.
