Utter recklessness during construction of a septic tank has cost the lives of four young labourers in Nabarangpur district, raising concern over adherence to safety protocols while undertaking such works. Reports indicate that proper safety precautions were not adhered to while entering the under-construction septic tank, which was left unventilated for several days, leading to asphyxiation of four daily wagers who entered into the tank in phases. Experts say entry into the tank without testing the air quality for toxic gases might have resulted in the shocking incident. Nabarangpur, June 3: In a tragic incident Tuesday morning, four labourers died of asphyxiation after entering an under-construction septic tank in Podalaguda village under Nandahandi block of Nabarangpur district. The deceased were identified as N Santu, 33, Amiya Khura, 31, Lalu Rana, 32, and Trilochan Bhatra, 30.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi expressed grief over the tragic incident and extended his condolences to the bereaved family members. As per the X handle of the Chief Minister’s Office, CM Majhi also announced that an ex gratia of ₹4 lakh each will be provided to the next of kin of the deceased out of the CMRF.
