LAST Sunday for Christians was the first day of Advent.

The journey to Christmas day has really begun in earnest, despite the fact that there were Christmas cards in the shops in September!

The Christmas trees are being bought and decorated, and there are festive songs in the supermarket. Children will be writing to Santa and praying that their wishes and longings for their favourite presents will be answered.

The birth of Christ in Bethlehem was an answer to the prayers and the longings of many hearts.

It had been foretold many years before by the Old Testament prophets.

‘And you, O Bethlehem in the land of Judah, are not least among the ruling cities of Judah, for a ruler will come from you who will be the shepherd for my people Israel.’
