Up on the rooftop in the sun at one of city centre's most loved pubs

THERE'S no shortage of pubs and bars in Nottingham city centre - from the independent breweries of Hockley to the sprawling row of nightclubs on St James' Street.

Yet, one stands out as a hidden gem right in the heart of the city.

The Angel Microbrewery in Stoney Street has been pulling pints since the 1700s.

The free house often attracted crowds standing outside drinking or in its bustling beer garden.

Yet with the sun out in full force and sun-catching gardens more popular than ever, the pub has created something special in the form of a new rooftop terrace.

The new seating area is upstairs, just a few steps away from the adjoining venue, The Chapel, where bands including the Arctic Monkeys have played.

Simple wooden tables and chairs are spaced around a hand-painted mural of flowers on the terrace, which is open until 11pm, seven days a week.
