Uncertainty over impact of proposed £280m NHS savings

NHS bosses have revealed how the service will try to save £282 million in the next year, but uncertainty reamains over the potential impact cuts could have on patients.

Nottingham and Nottinghamshire Integrated Care Board (ICB) representatives presented the breakdown of savings to the city council's health scrutiny committee on Thursday.

In 2024/25, £252 million was saved across the system in Nottinghamshire. The biggest anticipated saving for the current financial year is about £78 million in 'core services', followed by £41.5 million anticipated savings in the area's workforce.

The report did detail some plans to help save costs across the service, such as trying to reduce patients taking mire than 10 medications a day, conducting a medication review and decreasing repeat prescription items by one per cent in a pilot GP practice.
