Thousands of new jobs at nuclear fusion plant

FACILITY BEING BUILT ON SITE OF FORMER POWER STATION
THOUSANDS of construction and operation jobs will be created as part of a project at a former Nottingham-shire power station, a new report has said.
Five companies have been chosen to compete for the contract to deliver the Spherical Tokamak for Energy Production (STEP) fusion energy plant at the old West Burton Power Station near Retford.
Leaders have previously said that the pioneering project could replace the jobs Nottinghamshire lost from the end of coal mining. Ministers say that as Nottinghamshire marked the end of coal with the closure of Ratcliffe-on-Soar Power Station in late 2024, the county will now lead the creation of "the energy of the future".
