'They said no' says Paralympian on Sports Personality of the Year snub

NOTTINGHAM Paralympian Richard Whitehead has claimed that the BBC refused his attendance at the Sports Personality of the Year awards.

The double gold medallist and four-time world champion publicly said he was "astonished and deeply disappointed" not to be invited to the event on Thursday.
Mr Whitehead has now told the Post that his team actually got in touch with the BBC and were given a "big no", saying: "The honest truth is my team asked and they said no. My team shouldn't have to ask.
"The excuse will be capacity, even though they had influencers there with nothing to do with sport. I only ran 20 marathons all over the world showcasing high level British sport. You'd think they'd want someone that's also won global titles."
