'PRIDE IN PLACE' CASH AIMED AT IMPROVING NEIGHBOURHOODS
Robin Hood Chase, in St Ann's
ST Ann's, one of Nottingham's most deprived areas, will receive up to £20m from the government to transform and revitalise the district.
The “Pride in Place” programme will see communities take charge of funding to transform their local areas, from reviving high streets to rejuvenating parks and public spaces.
The £5bn project will target 330 areas across the nation, including several areas in the wider county, such as Ashfield, Broxtowe, Cinderhill, and Mansfield.
Currently, there are two parts to the funding, with 14 East Midlands areas set to receive £2 million a year for a decade, including St Ann’s.
A further six areas in the East Midlands will receive £1.5 million to upgrade public spaces with new green spaces, play areas, sports facilities and leisure facilities. These include Nottingham, Ashfield, Mansfield, Leicester, Boston and Derby.
Local people will be appointed to decide how the funding will be spent, with the aim of giving the people with knowledge of the area the power to enact change.
