PLAIN CLOTHES OFFICER SUFFERED SERIOUS FACIAL INJURIES AS HE TRIED TO BREAK UP FIGHT IN CITY

- By RUCSANDRA MOLDOVEANU

A POLICE officer could require surgery after he was subjected to an “abhorrent attack” during an evening patrol in Nottingham city centre.

The sergeant was on duty in plain clothes shortly before 7.45pm on Saturday when he spotted a commotion outside Pit and Pendulum in Victoria Street.

The altercation involved a large group of people and bouncers at the venue. Attempting to calm things down, the officer identified himself as police but was then pulled by the group into the middle of the tram lines running along Victoria Street.

He was then punched and kicked on the ground by several people, leaving him with serious facial injuries.

The sergeant activated his emergency button and more officers arrived at the scene, one of whom was elbowed in the chest.
