Shop owners sad to say goodbye after nearly 40 years

LOCALS have said it's the end of an era after the announcement their corner shop is to close.
The owners of Rutland Stores are leaving after nearly 40 years.
Brothers Kanu and Ramesh Patel took over the existing business in Lady Bay in 1986. Kanu said: "This shop has been here over 100 years. It's always been called Rutland Stores, a convenience shop, we sell everything.
"We were looking for something to do I had been working for someone else in Leicester at the time and we thought about retail. We were looking everywhere and we found quite a few shops and this was the one we liked."
Ramesh, 76, took a step back a few years ago and now it is time for Kanu, 67, to retire. The shop in Rutland Road will close this weekend but not before drinks and nibbles for customers today, between 1pm and 5pm.
