UNACCEPTABLE, SAYS HEAD COACH AFTER HE SEES SIDE CONCEDE THREE TIMES IN FIRST 10 MINUTES DURING 4-0 LOSS IN GERMANY
-
MARTIN Paterson made clear in no uncertain terms his disappointment at the performance his Notts County side produced during Saturday's 4-0 preseason friendly loss to Kaiser-slautern.
The Magpies found themselves all but out of the contest in just the first 10 minutes after conceding three goals, something the head coach would later describe as “unacceptable and unprofessional”.
The visitors’ task on what was the second game during their tour of Germany then got much harder when summer signing Barry Cotter was shown the red card following a cynical challenge on an opponent.
The defender’s teammates would rally in his absence, but their resilience went unrewarded when the Bundesliga 2 side netted a fourth from a set-piece after the break.
Notts wrap-up their preseason tour against Stuttgarter Kickers tomorrow (7pm, UK time) but between now and then Paterson plans to reflect on the weekend’s game and put his players through their paces.
“It’s important for me to be really transparent and honest,” he told the club website.
“The start we made to the game was unacceptable and verging on unprofessional.
“I don’t say that to beat the players with a stick - but we had a fantastic set of supporters behind us today, creating a jovial atmosphere having spent a lot of money to be here, only to see us be out of the game within the first 10 minutes.
