'Running down' market has cost 'stubborn' city council £380k

NOTTINGHAM City Council has been told to stop being "stubborn" as new figures show a reduction in traders at the Victoria Centre Market has cost it nearly £400,000.

One of the five businesses left at the indoor market says the council's costs could end up getting worse without them offering businesses a fair deal.

"They've still got to pay the council staff, the service charges to the Victoria Centre.

"They've got all that still to pay and now they haven't got the income to pay for it", said David Bowey, who runs watch repair business Tick King.

A standoff continues between the city council and the remaining traders it is now trying to force out of the market.
