FIVE INCIDENTS ON TREACHEROUS A46 LEAD TO SERIES OF CLOSURES IN MORNING

- By JOSHUA HARTLEY

Road shut after ice smashes

POLICE closed a road in Nottinghamshire yesterday after a series of crashes on ice.

Sections of the A46 were shut in both directions following a series of collisions near Willoughby-on-the-Wolds, between junctions with the A606 Melton Road, near Widmerpool, and the A6006 Wide Lane.

Nottinghamshire Police said a number of motorists had lost control of their vehicles and left the slippery road but that no one had been seriously injured.

"Nobody is currently believed to have sustained any life-threatening injuries during the respective incidents," a police spokesperson said.

"Motorists are asked to take alternative routes and avoid the area, while vehicles are recovered and the road is re-gritted.

"We would also advise drivers to keep a good distance from other vehicles, reduce their speed and set off on their journeys with plenty of time."
