QMC worker's sex attack on patient who was 'in mental health crisis'

VICTIM: 'MONSTER'S ACTIONS WILL STAY WITH ME FOR LIFE'

- By MARTIN NAYLOR

A MARRIED hospital worker sexually assaulted a patient going through a “mental health crisis” as she lay on a bed at the Queen's Medical Centre.

Nottingham Crown Court heard how healthcare assistant Jyv Cagampang touched the victim while she was surrounded by curtains and then told her to “pretend to be asleep” if anyone walked in.

After being discharged to a mental health unit, the woman he abused tracked down the 36-year-old on Facebook to get him to admit what he had done.

And in a victim impact statement she told how she “should have been able to feel safe by people trained in care”.

Jailing Cagampang, also known as Jyv Jamal, for nine years and four months, Judge Nirmal Shant KC said: "Left in your charge was a highly emotional patient that was in a mental health crisis. It is quite plain she was in a desperate state at that time.

"This was a gross and blatant breach of trust. She said in her victim impact statement 'he was at work and he should have been looking after me'.

"You then tried to blame her saying she had instigated any touching which shows at first you were trying to get away with it.

"She has been profoundly impacted by what you did to her that day. She said it has changed her life completely. She was literally in a hospital bed waiting to be admitted to a psychiatric ward."
