DOCUMENTS SUBMITTED TO COUNCIL FOR LONG-AWAITED SCHEME
PIVOTAL plans to transform Nottingham’s empty police and fire station headquarters have been revealed after a years-long setback.
Documents for the regeneration of the former police and fire service station on Shakespeare Street in the city centre, which has been empty since 2016, have now been submitted to Nottingham City Council.
A proposal to demolish the large 1930s building and replace it with hundreds of student flats was recommended for approval by the city council - which owns the site - in 2023, but the structure was awarded protective listed status before this redevelopment could be approved.
This derailed plans from developer Vita Group to tear down the vacant Art Deco station close to Nottingham Trent University’s city campus, sending them back to the drawing board.
