Primary school may have to shut after big decline in pupil numbers

A PRIMARY school in Nottingham is facing closure due to a decline in pupil numbers, which has been blamed on falling birth rates.

Snape Wood Primary and Nursery School in Bulwell could close at the end of the next academic year under the "very difficult" proposals.

Nottingham City Council said the school, which has capacity for 210 pupils, currently has almost 90 vacancies, which are expected to grow to more than 120 by 2028/29. The authority said the decline means Snape Wood receives reduced funding from central government, which results in less money for staff and resources.
